According to a news release from Sheriff Jeff Norlin, deputies and Dassel Fire Department crew members arrived at 66684 217th St. to find smoke and flames coming from the roof of the home.

No one was home, and fire crews retrieved the family dog from the home. The dog showed no signs of injuries.

The Litchfield Fire Department was called to assist the Dassel fire crews. Due to the location, damage and timing of the fire, it is believed at this time that lightning from the passing storm struck the home causing ignition. The State Fire Marshall's Office was contacted to investigate.
