Rural Grove City, Minn., house burns, cause undetermined

GROVE CITY -- The cause of a fire that burned a rural Grove City residence Wednesday afternoon is under investigation by the Meeker County Sheriff's Office and the State Fire Marshal's Office.

According to Meeker County Sheriff Jeff Norlin, the Grove City Fire Department was dispatched around 3:30 p.m. to a house fire at 52252 343rd St. in Union Grove Township.

The caller reporting the fire saw flames and a large amount of smoke coming from the west side of the residence. Upon deputies' arrival, the west side of the house was on fire and it was spreading up the exterior wall into the upstairs and attic.

The Eden Valley and Paynesville fire departments were called to assist, along with the State Fire Marshal.

The house is owned by Janet Smiglewski of Grove City, and is considered a total loss. Nobody was inside the residence at the time of the fire.
