Russell Amundson June 12, 1921 - Feb. 1, 2009

BENSON -- Russell Verdi Amundson, 87, of Benson, died Sunday at Southview Manor in Benson.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Benson. Burial will be in the Benson City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the church and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are by Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson.

He was born June 12, 1921, in Pembina County, N.D., to Arthur and Mabel (Molden) Amundson. He grew up in rural Big Bend, attended country school, graduated from Appleton High School and went on to attend welding school in Shakopee. He served in the Army from 1942 to 1945 as a Tech 4 Welder.

He married Alvina Mae Hagen on Oct. 1, 1948, in Swift County. He worked for Powell Auto Company in Montevideo and Thursbys in Benson. He later owned Amundson's Inc. with his brothers. He was a member of the VFW and St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Benson.

He is survived by his wife; his children: Glenn (and Diane) Amundson of Donnelly, Jim (and Helen) Amundson of Benson, Cheryl (and Roland) Sandberg of Hutchinson, Randall (and Lori) Amundson of Danvers, Mark (and Barb) Amundson of Ortonville and David (and Grace) Amundson of Benson; 18 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 5 stepgreat-grandchildren; and siblings: Wayne (and Marie) Amundson of Benson and Darlene (and Al) Lee of Coos Bay, Ore.

He was preceded in death by a stillborn son: Dean; two grandchildren; three brothers; and one sister.
