Russell Hanson Dec. 12, 1946 - Nov. 22, 2008
SPICER -- Russell Steven Hanson, 61, of Spicer, died Saturday at home after a lengthy battle with cancer.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Spicer. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the church with a 6 p.m. parish prayer service and for one hour prior to the services. Arrangements with Johnson Funeral Home in New London.
He was born Dec. 12, 1946, in Glenwood, to Willard and Borgel (Sandven) Hanson. He grew up in New London and graduated from New London-Spicer High School in 1964. In 1966, he joined the U.S. Navy and later the Marine Corps and served during the Vietnam War until his discharge in 1969. He received numerous medals including the Purple Heart.
He married Barb Wuertz on Sept. 25, 1971, in Lake Henry. They lived in New London and Spicer and he owned and operated AB Vacuum Center in Willmar for 35 years. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, the Willmar Area Chamber of Commerce, Vacuum Dealers Trade Association, New London American Legion and VFW.
He is survived by his wife; children: Trevor Hanson of Marshall, Tanya (and Eric) Leither of Cold Spring and Trent (and Melissa) Hanson of New London; seven grandchildren; his mother of New London; brothers: Jerry (and Barb) Hanson, Jeff (and Lavon) Hanson, Keith (and Laurie) Hanson and Larry (and Judy) Hanson all of New London.
He was preceded in death by his father, one brother and one sister.
