Ruth E. Obermeyer

MONTEVIDEO -- Ruth Evelyn Obermeyer, 96, of Montevideo, died Tuesday at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aberdeen, S.D. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, with a 4 p.m. prayer service, at Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
She was born April 12, 1912, in Aberdeen to August and Nellie (Nishem) Moberg. She graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1929 and received her teaching certificate from Northern Normal School, which later became Northern State University. She taught country schools in the Webster and Westport areas and then taught school in Westport and Aberdeen.
She married Otto Obermeyer on April 14, 1939, at Bristol, S.D. They lived at Westport and later moved to Aberdeen. She continued her education and received her bachelor's degree from Northern State University in 1971. She retired from teaching in 1974 but continued to substitute teach for many years. After Otto's death in 2000, she moved to Montevideo to live with her daughter until moving to Luther Haven Nursing Home.
She had been a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aberdeen.
She is survived by two daughters: Judy (and Jerry) Miller of Watertown, S.D., and Janeen (and Darwin) TeBeest of Montevideo; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers.
