Ruth Tangen April 28, 1924 - June 8, 2009
STARBUCK -- Ruth Marion Tangen, 85, of Starbuck, died Monday at the Minnewaska Lutheran Nursing Home in Starbuck.
The service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley. The Starbuck Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
She was born April 28, 1924, to Oscar and Emma (Peterson) Borud in Fosston. She grew up in Fosston where she received her education.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley and a past member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Winger. After high school, she worked several years in Minneapolis for Sears and Roebuck. She returned to Fosston and worked as a receptionist for the hospital.
She married Francis Tangen on April 30, 1949. They lived in several communities including Fosston, McIntosh, Winger, Twin Valley and retired to Starbuck. She worked as a bookkeeper at the Winger Co-op, as a nurse's aide and was owner and operator of a convenience store/café. She was an American Legion Auxiliary member and was active in the McDowell women's choir.
She is survived by her husband; four children: Cynthia Johnson of Gully, Ray (and Marilyn) Tangen of Rock Springs, Wyo., Beverly (and Craig) Helgaas of Glenwood and Dale Tangen of Glenwood; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son-in-law: Darrell Johnson; and one sister.
