Sally Femrite April 26, 1919 - Jan. 17, 2009
GLENWOOD -- Sally Evangeline Femrite, 89, of rural Brooten died Saturday at home.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Barsness Lutheran Church in Glenwood with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are by Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson. Memorials preferred to the Barsness Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund.
She was born April 26, 1919, to Mabel and Edwin Amundson. She grew up on a farm south of Starbuck and graduated from Starbuck High School. She graduated from Humboldt School of Business in Minneapolis and returned to Starbuck and was a court reporter for the Pope County Welfare Department.
She married Sig Femrite, who was then in the U.S. Navy, on June 18, 1942. She joined him in New York City from January to August 1944 while he was stationed there. She returned to Starbuck when Sig's ship deployed. Following the war, they were stationed at Fort Snelling and lived in south Minneapolis. She was a homemaker, taught Sunday and Bible school and was a member of several choirs.
They were transferred to Hampton, Va., in 1963 and she was active at Trinity Lutheran Church and the Fort Monroe Officers Club. She also did charity work. When her husband retired, they built a home overlooking Lake Minnewaska. She was a member of Barsness Lutheran Church and sang in the choir, was active in BLCW, Pope County Cancer Society and Glenwood Retirement Home Auxiliary. She worked as the secretary to the director of nursing at Glenwood Retirement Community.
She is survived by her children: Susan (and Greg) Walling of Starbuck, Stephen (and Sharon) Femrite of Baltimore and Stacy (and Gar) Herfindahl of Glenwood; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters: Myra Knutson of Minneapolis and Dorothy Coy of Danvers.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
