WILLMAR -- Sandra Kay Seydel, 59, of Willmar, died Friday at Rice Memorial Hospital. She had suffered from cancer for nearly four years.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
She was born Sept. 9, 1949, in New Prague to Alfred and Elmira (Krentz) Otto. She grew up in Belle Plaine, graduating from Belle Plaine High School in 1967. She graduated from Mankato State University in 1971 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. She lived and taught in Mexico from 1971 to 1975. She was a pre-school director in Canby and Minneota from 1975 to 1977 and then moved to Willmar where she served as a pre-school coordinator with an education co-op.
On July 21, 1978, she married Eugene R. Seydel in Belle Plaine. The family lived in Willmar. She taught kindergarten until June 2006, when she retired after 28 years of teaching.
She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar, where she was a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher for a number of years. She had also served as an organizer for the church Advent Festival. She was a member of the Minnesota Kindergarten Association and participated in Relay for Life.
She is survived by her husband; children: Evan Gene Seydel of Golden Valley and Jena Louise Seydel of St. Paul; her mother of Belle Plaine; siblings: Barb (and Mike) Smith of Burnsville, Dave (and Mary) Otto of Belle Plaine and Cindy (and Dave) Lynch of Cologne.
She was preceded in death by her father and one sister.
