Scattered thunderstorms expected across west central Minnesota through tonight

Scattered thunderstorms are expected today and tonight across west central Minnesota, including Willmar.

The National Weather Service in Chanhassen said the best chance for the thunderstorms will be along and east of a line from Redwood Falls to Little Falls. This line would be slightly east of Willmar.

Although widespread severe weather is not expected, a few severe storms are possible along and east of Interstate 35 during the afternoon during the afternoon and evening hours. The primary severe weather threat will be hail around one inch in diameter along with localized wind gusts near 60 mph.

At 1:05 p.m., radar indicated a severe thunderstorm located near Canby and moving east at 10 mph. This storm is capable of producing quarter size hail and damaging winds of up to 60 mph. This warning was scheduled to expire at 2 p.m.
