School Board hearing is Monday on closing Garfield School

WILLMAR -- The Willmar School Board will hold a public hearing at 4:30 p.m. Monday to consider closing Garfield School. The hearing will be in the board room at the Willmar Education and Arts Center, 611 Fifth St. S.W. The board will take public comments related to the school closing.

Following the public hearing, the board will hold a special meeting to act on preliminary certification of the 2012 levy and take public comments related to the agenda item.

Following the special meeting, they will hold a work session. Special guest will be City Administrator Charlene Stevens. Ken Warner, president of the Willmar Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, will discuss the Buying Local program.

Also, High School Principal Rob Anderson and the board will discuss the economic and education effects of moving from the block schedule to traditional schedule at the high school; and will discuss with Middle School Principal Mark Miley the effect of moving from a modified block schedule to traditional schedule at the middle school.
