School District goals, past-due lunch policy approved in Benson
BENSON -- The Benson School Board on?Tuesday approved goals for the 2010-11 school year and a district policy dealing with past-due food service accounts
The three overarching goals for the district are improving student achievement, providing a positive school climate and maintaining fiscal responsibility, according to Superintendent Lee Westrum.
The goals are then broken down into detailed expectations, such as progress and improvement on test scores, budget responsibility and the like.
At its regular meeting Tuesday, the board also approved a formal policy on how the district will handle food service accounts that are past due, Westrum said.
Under the policy, students and staff with accounts that have a negative balance of $25 will not be allowed to charge any more to the account. Students and parents will be informed regarding their balance the day before a student is denied a meal.
After that point, the student will be offered a minimal lunch, which includes a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. The policy is effective immediately, Westrum said.
The board also approved an agreement with the Morris Area School District sharing Benson's food service director. The districts also shared Jeanine Bowman's time last year.
The board's next meeting is at 6 p.m. Sept. 20 at the DeGraff Community Center. The board meets once per year in each of the communities served by the district.
