S.D. county considers snow removal penalty

WATERTOWN, S.D. (AP) -- The county commission at Watertown will take up a revised ordinance to double the penalty for illegally dumping snow on county roads, ditches or rights of way.

Codington County Highway Superintendent Rick Small recommended charging the violator $200 an hour to cover equipment and employee costs if the county has to remove the snow.

The Codington County Commission gave first reading to the proposal on Tuesday and will take final action on Jan. 19.
