Semi plunges into icy pond near Monticello, Minn.

A semi hauling a Target trailer drove off Interstate 94 and ended up partially submerged in an icy pond this morning near Monticello, about 40 miles northwest of the Twin Cities.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported on its Twitter account that the driver was able to get out of the cab and crawl across the ice to safety, and suffered minor injuries.

The truck was traveling eastbound near mile marker 196 at the time of the crash.

A photo posted by the State Patrol on Twitter showed the truck in water up to its windows after the crash, which happened at about 6:20 a.m.

The Patrol reported that recovery operations to get the truck out of the pond were under way this morning.
