Semi trailer tips over, spills turkey meat
A trailer carrying 38,000 pounds of Jennie-O turkey breast separated from a semi on Kandiyohi County Road 5 near the intersection of Highway 29, west of Lake Florida, at 12:30 this morning, tipping over into the ditch and spilling piles of meat. Cleanup was still under way at noon today.
The trailer was totaled, but Sgt. Gary Wyffels of the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office wasn't sure about the damage to the semi. The semi driver suffered no injuries.
"I suppose there were several fatalities, but they died before the crash," said Wyffels, referring to the piles of turkey meat being stacked in the ditch.
At noon the trailer was finally taken from the scene, leaving workers to clean up the remainder of the spill.
