Belton died at the scene of the accident.

According to Renville County Sheriff Scott Hable, the preliminary investigation determined that Belton was going north on County Road 1 when the 1989 Ford Tempo she was driving went into the west ditch and rolled.

The accident happened a quarter of a mile south of the Renville-Kandiyohi County line, which is about six miles north of Danube.
