Sheriff says objects dropped onto I-29 traffic in northeast S.D.

Authorities are investigating two reports of heavy metal rods being dropped onto vehicles on Interstate 29 in northeast South Dakota.

Roberts County Sheriff Jay Tasa (told KWAT radio Thursday that the approximately 2-foot long rods known as "J-bolts" were tossed from an overpass at night late last week near the Wilmot exit.

He says one rod hit a semi-tractor trailer and the other hit a car. Tasa said the female driver of the car suffered minor injuries.
