Sheriff Kevin Scotting says the boy died about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, before paramedics arrived at the home in rural Kingsbury County. Outside temperatures on Wednesday reached 90 degrees.

Scotting says the boy's father put him in his car seat, but it wasn't clear why he was left unattended for so long.

Scotting hasn't released the names of the boy or his parents, citing the ongoing investigation. He says the child was less than a year old.
