Sheriff's Office names man killed Saturday in crash east of Willmar
WILLMAR -- The man killed in a two-vehicle crash Saturday just east of Willmar was Steven Joseph Szalma, 38, of Kandiyohi.
The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office released the man's name today in a news release. Szalma was the driver of one of the vehicles. The Sheriff's Office has not yet released the names of anyone else involved.
The Sheriff’s Office was called at approximately 12:46 p.m. Saturday to a collision of two trucks on 15th Avenue Southeast (County Road 23), about a quarter-mile west of County Road 9. When emergency services arrived, they found Szalma had died.
Two passengers, a 37-year-old woman and 7-year-old boy, were transported by Willmar Ambulance to Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Their condition has not been not reported.
The second truck was driven by a 37-year-old Willmar man who was headed west on 15th Avenue when his vehicle lost control on the icy roadway, crossed the center line and collided with the other truck. His condition has not been reported.
The Willmar Fire Department, Kandiyohi County Rescue Squad and Minnesota State Patrol assisted at the scene.
