Sidney Tvedt Nov. 22, 1913 - Sept. 26, 2009
GLENWOOD -- Sidney Norine Tvedt, 95, of rural Glenwood, died Saturday at home.
The service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at West Lake Johanna Lutheran Church near Brooten. Burial will be in West Lake Johanna Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
He was born Nov. 22, 1913, on the family farm in Gilchrist Township, Pope County, to Albert and Hilda (Anderson) Tvedt. The family lived in Camp Lake from 1920 to 1931. When they returned to the farm, he went into farming with his brother. He enlisted in the Army in 1942, serving as a mechanic and carpenter in Wisconsin, Ohio and England during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
He married Jeanne Cowdery of Basingstoke, England, on Nov. 20, 1947. They lived on the farm in Gilchrist Township. He was a member of West Lake Johanna Lutheran Church, served 57 years on the Gilchrist Township Board and was a 61-year member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his children: Diane Tvedt of Minneapolis and John Tvedt of Glenwood; and two sisters: Hazel Amlie of Benson and Hannah Sanders of Glenwood.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2001 and one brother.
