Sigvart Fredrickson Jan. 19, 1905 -- Jan. 20, 2009
GRANITE FALLS -- Sigvart "Sig" Fredrickson, 104, of Granite Falls, formerly of Maynard, died Tuesday at the Granite Falls Manor.
The service will be at 11 a.m., Sunday at Wang Lutheran Church, rural Maynard. Burial will be in the church cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Granite Falls.
He was born Jan. 19, 1905, in Lyngdal Valley, Norway, to Fredrik and Severine (Birkeland) Grøvan. He grew up on a nine-acre farm in the valley and attended seven years of grade school. At the age of 20, he moved to the United States and joined three of his brothers who had previously immigrated. He became a citizen in 1943.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942, serving as a member of Company A 99th Infantry Battalion. He was honorably discharge due to an illness and he returned to Wang Township, Renville County, where he farmed and built houses and barns.
He married Borgney Lindseth from Stinkger, Norway, on June 20, 1948. In 1962, his wife suffered a debilitating stroke and he cared for her for the next 22 years.
He is survived by one niece and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife and 13 siblings.
