Six area gymnasts in state meet Friday

MINNEAPOLIS -- Six area gymnasts will compete on Friday in the State Gymnastics Tournament held at the University of Minnesota's Sports Pavilion.

Kelsey Jacobson, a sophomore from Willmar, is the lone Class AA competitor that earned a berth in the state meet. She qualified on vault.

Michele Hanson, a Benson/KMS senior, and Kelsi Magers, a Redwood Valley junior, both qualified for the third straight year.

Magers finished 10th overall on vault two years ago as a freshman and placed 12th last year on vault.

Hanson finished 16th last season on vault and 30th on balance beam. She was 22nd on vault as a sophomore.

Allison Bratberg, a sophomore from New London-Spicer, qualified in three events -- all-around, bars and vault. Her teammate, Alanna Dietz, also a sophomore, will compete in floor exercise.

Breanna Berry, a Litchfield sophomore, qualified on balance beam.

The Class A individuals begin at 11 a.m. and AA at 6 p.m.

The team portion of the state meet begins today at the Sports Pavilion with Class A at 11 a.m. and AA at 6 p.m. No area teams qualified.
