The Hennpin County Sheriff's Water Patrol says the man was found in the water Sunday after another skater spotted a hat floating on the partially frozen lake and called police.

He was taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale but died.

The man had recently moved to the Twin Cities from another state. His name, age and hometown have not been released.

He's the first ice fatality in Hennepin County this season.
