Biennial plan hearing
The Southwest Minnesota Arts and Humanities Council will have a hearing at 4 p.m. Tuesday on the 2010-2011 biennial plan. The hearing is designed to gather testimony about the Arts Council's programs, policies and budget requests. Individuals or groups can speak about what is important to their community, suggestions for programs and services, and what special areas the Arts Council should address. The Southwest Minnesota Arts and Humanities Council awarded a total of $68,649 for regional arts activities through two grant programs: Arts Project grant provides up to $4,500 in matching funds to produce art events and Local Arts Development grants provide up to $4,000 in matching funds to local arts organizations to strengthen their capacity to provide quality arts activities.
Receiving grants from the Tribune area were:
Madison: Lac qui Parle Valley Community Education, $2,000 for the musical production of "Oklahoma."
Willmar: Willmar Area Arts Council, $3,000 for the 2009 Studio Hop and $2,250 for the 2009 Celebrate Art! Celebrate Coffee!
Redwood Falls: Redwood Area theatre, $4,500 for the musical production of "Annie."
Litchfield: Litchfield Community Education, $1,300 for the presentation "A World of Music" with Todd Green
Marshall: Prairie Arts Chorale, $1,997 for the spring concert.
New London: Peer None Players, $2,637 for the production of "Bunnicula."
Milan: Milan MOVERS, $2,546 for the 2009 Taste of Syttende Mai.
Granite Falls: Granite Falls Community Theatre, $2,790 for the musical production of "Guys and Dolls."
Appleton: Meander Artists, $3,375 for the 2009 Upper Minnesota River Valley Meander.
Local Arts Development
Receiving grants from the Tribune area was:
Litchfield: Greater Litchfield Opera House Association, $3,887 for renovating the Opera House.
The Southwest Minnesota Arts and Humanities Council awarded a total of $7,146 to individual artists. Career grants award up to $2,000 to aid career artists and Development grants award up to $1,000 for projects to aid emerging artists.
New London: Lisa Berg, $975 to purchase materials for Kiehle Gallery exhibit.
Willmar: William Zimmer, $1,171 to purchase professional camera equipment.
New London: Craig Edwards, $2,000 to purchase tools to build a wood fired kiln.
Montevideo: Peter Den Blaker, $1,000 to produce a demo CD and purchase recording equipment.
