Smith starts pro career with a bang

Jordan Smith of Willmar got a base hit in his first at bat Wednesday night and then had the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the 11th as the Mahoning Valley Scrappers beat the Batavia Muckdogs 4-3 in Niles, Ohio.

Smith went 2-for-5 with two RBI. Down in the count 1-2, he drew a bases-loaded walk to force in the game-ending run. Smith signed with the Cleveland Indians on Sunday.

The Scrappers improved to 4-2 in the Class A New York-Penn League.
