Smith’s 3 hits help trigger Mudcats’ win
Outfielders Tyler Naquin and Jordan Smith, batting 1-2 in the order, each went 3-for-5 in the Carolina Mudcats’ 5-3 win Sunday night over the Fredrick Keys at Harry Grove Stadium.
The win evened the Mudcats’ record at 11-11 in the second half (33-59 overall).
Smith, a Willmar native in his third year of pro ball, doubled twice and singled driving in two runs. Naquin, a Texan and the Cleveland Indians’ first pick in the June 2012 draft, scored three runs.
Smith, through Sunday, is hitting .265 with 18 doubles, 3 triples and 2 home runs, and has driven in 33 runs. He’s also stolen 13 bases.
