According to Meeker County Sheriff Jeff Norlin, county dispatch received a call around 2:15 p.m. Sunday that a snowmobile was on fire on the snowmobile trail along State Highway 24 north of Litchfield.

The 1996 Arctic Cat ZRT 600 was being driven by a 14-year-old, who had a valid safety certificate, from rural Watkins.

The cause of the fire was believed to be a leaking gas line.

The Litchfield Fire Department assisted at the scene.
