Snowy weather leads to accidents
Snowy weather over the weekend resulted in a number of accidents in the area.
Five people were injured in a head-on collision that was reported at 3:34 p.m. Saturday on U.S. Highway 212 in Hector.
According to the State Patrol, a 1992 Pontiac Bonneville driven by Judith Vela, 27, of Olivia was going east on Highway 212 and slowed for a vehicle that was turning. She was unable to stop, however, and went around that vehicle and struck another vehicle, driven by Charles Wattnem, 58, of New Ulm that was going west, but was stopped on the road.
The drivers, along with two passengers in Vela's vehicle and one passenger in Wattnem's vehicle, suffered non-life threatening injuries.
In another accident, Arlan Brekke, 75, of Gaylord, was injured when the 2002 Chevy pickup he was driving rolled on state Highway 22, one mile north of Gaylord.
Most of the accidents reported were property-damage accidents with vehicles colliding with another vehicle, fixed objects or sliding into ditches.
A car and a pickup collided at 1:32 p.m. Friday in the 15000 block of 92nd Street Northeast, New London, causing heavy damage to both vehicles. The drivers and passengers were not injured. About an hour later in the 9000 block of County Road 10 Southeast near Spicer, a truck struck a pole. Again, no injuries were reported.
At least one accident resulted in a citation. A Texas woman was cited for not having a Minnesota driver's license after the truck she was driving landed in the ditch around 10:30 p.m. Friday in the area of U.S. Highway 71 South and 75th Avenue.
A Ford Windstar and a Jeep Grand Cherokee collided at 3:15 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of state Highway 23 Southwest and County Road 5. The initial report said there were children in at least one of the vehicles, but there were no injuries. Everyone was wearing seat belts.
A woman was injured in a one-vehicle rollover that was reported at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at state Highway 7 East and County Road 44. The State Patrol had no further information. The State Patrol also responded to two other accidents Saturday in Kandiyohi County. A two-vehicle accident happened at 3:19 p.m. in the 7000 block of U.S. Highway 71 South and another happened around 3:41 p.m. at state Highway 23 and County Road 1. There were no injuries in either of those accidents.
