NEW LONDON -- Albany scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to defeat New London-Spicer 4-2 in a West Central North Conference softball game on Tuesday.

Vanessa Richter tripled and scored the go-ahead run on a single by Lisa Keppers, who came around to score on a sacrifice bunt and a single by Cassie Linz.

Karli Wendlandt's run-scoring single tied the game 1-1 in the second inning. The Wildcats went ahead 2-1 in the third.

Jenna Moritz had two hits for NLS.

Karli Persson pitched six innings for the win for the Huskies, allowing only three hits.

Alissa Holmgren's triple in the third inning drove in the only run for the Dragons (0-3, 0-4).

Megan Vargo hit a two-run homer to lead Watertown-Mayer. Danielle Engel struck out nine and gave up two hits.

Redwood Valley (1-1, 2-1) turned the table in the second game as Sam Felt spun a one-hit shutout that featured seven strikeouts. Felt held the Tigers hitless until Emily Facile singled in the fifth.

The Cardinals had Ashley Bunting score on errors in the third and seventh innings and Steph Jensen drive in a run with a double in the third.
