BENSON -- Laura Paulson spun a four-hit shutout with eight strikeouts to and Minnewaska's two hits were just enough as the Lakers blanked Ben-son/Hancock 3-0 Tuesday in West Central South Conference softball on Tuesday.


Paulson had a string of eight consecutive strikeouts at one point that stretched from the first to third innings and allowed only one Benson/Hancock (2-1, 2-1) to reach third base.

Shayla Paulzine singled in Breanna Jenks in the second and the Lakers added insurance runs in the third and fifth. All three runs were unearned.

Taylor Semler was tagged with the loss despite limiting Minnewaska (3-0, 3-0) to two singles. Datriana Jensen, Laura Hoffman, Mallory Jensen and Megan Jepma singled for the Brave/Owls.

Jennessa Hoffman ripped a single down the third-base line that plated Angie Scheffler from third with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to top off a three-run Yellow Medicine East rally.

The Sting trailed Lac qui Parle Valley 10-8 after six. Haley Fischer doubled in the first run in the rally and then scored on an infield error which allowed Scheffler to reach base.

YME freshman Allie Trudel threw all seven innings for the win.

Rachel Schlieman doubled twice for the Eagles and drove in three runs but also took the loss in relief. Jordan Halvorson drove in three runs also.

Morris scored seven runs in the fifth inning, then shut down ACGC in the bottom half to win by the 10-run rule.

Haley Henrichs, Mary Rentz and Hannah Sayles had two hits each for the Tigers (1-0, 1-0) in their season opener. Kelsey Greenwaldt added a hit and three walks.

Mackenzie Weatherly pitched five innings and scattered eight hits. She struck out five and walked one.

Angela Blackwell paced the Falcons (0-4, 0-4) with three hits, including a double, and an RBI. Miranda Hopp added two hits.

Paynesville (2-1, 2-1) scored in every inning but the sixth to hand BOLD (1-1, 2-1) its first loss.

McKenzie Quade singled twice and doubled and Taylor Haag and Caitlyn Gottwald added two hits apiece to back Whitney Woehler's complete-game victory that had seven strikeouts.

Brittany Nissen and Molly Herdina singled to account for BOLD's two hits.
