GRANITE FALLS -- Yellow Medicine East tallied three run in the bottom of the fifth to break open a 4-4 tie and went on to drop Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 7-4 in West Central South softball on Thursday.


Tied 4-4, Citty Cole reached on an error and came home on a Steph Larson single. Larson moved around on Ashley Soderstrom's bunt and a Falcons throwing error. Ashley Magnuson singled in the third run.

YME (2-4, 5-4) winning pitcher Allie Trudel held ACGC (1-3, 1-3) scoreless the last four innings and pitched a complete game without a strikeout.

Kayla Dallmann and Rachel Wright each had a pair of hits for ACGC.

Jazmin Peterson threw seven solid innings for the Falcons, all in relief.

Montevideo 8, Morris 5

Kayla Berget of Montevideo hit a two-run homer in the top of the fourth inning to put the game out of reach for Morris.

The Thunder Hawks jumped to a quick lead by scoring six runs on five Morris errors in the top of the first inning.

Berget batted 2-for-4 with the homer, a double and three runs batted in. Emily Johnson also hit 3-for-4 with a double.

Becca Pauling earned the win for Montevideo by pitching a complete game with five earned runs surrendered on 10 hits.

Minnewaska 12, LQPV 6

Alicia Pfeninger got off to a rocky start but finished with a three hitter with eight strikeouts. She re-entered in the sixth inning after reliever Hailey Blair ran into trouble.

Cassie Jacobs led the offense with three hits for Minnewaska (3-1, 6-1). Breanna Jenks, Laura Paulson, and Brooke Falk all had two hits apiece.

Ellissa Schmidt had two hits for the Lac qui Parle Valley (1-3, 1-5).
