Spicer, Minn., man gets 30 years of probation on sex charge
WILLMAR -- Marlin Leroy Kroona, 76, of Spicer, was sentenced Monday to 30 years of probation on a first-degree criminal sexual conduct charge for sexually abusing a young boy about 12 years ago.
As part of his sentence handed down in Kandiyohi County District Court by Judge Michael J. Thompson, Kroona was ordered to have no contact with the victim or the victim's mother and no unsupervised contact with any person under age 18. As part of a plea agreement, two additional criminal sexual conduct charges were dismissed.
The charges were filed after sheriff's deputies were called to a verbal domestic incident between Kroona and a 20-year-old man on Aug. 9, 2009.
The younger man said he had awakened to find Kroona touching him.
He also said he had been sexually abused by Kroona about 12 years ago and had never reported it. The man was later interviewed and reported that he had spent time at Kroona's home on Green Lake and that the abuse happened in the summer of 1999 or 2000.
He said that Kroona told him it was "their secret" and that he had not reported it because he didn't want to disrupt his family.
He said he felt compelled to report the abuse after the Aug. 9, 2009, incident.
According to documents in the court file, the case had been delayed due to Kroona's ill health, including a stroke and colon surgery.
