WILLMAR -- Kandiyohi County seasonal load restrictions begin Monday. The restrictions will be effective county-wide.

Seasonal road restrictions protect roads during the eight-week spring thaw when road strength is at the low point of the year.

Under new state law governing spring seasonal road restrictions that go into effect this year, all non-posted county paved roads are restricted to a 10-ton per axle load limitation and all non-posted gravel roads are restricted to a 7-ton per axle load limitation. Prior to this year, all non-posted county roads were restricted to a 5-ton per axle.

The change means there will be fewer road posting signs required than in previous years.

By state law, all non-posted township roads remain restricted to a 5-ton per axle load limitation.

For further information, including a map showing the axle load restrictions on county roads, go to the Kandiyohi County Web site: www.kandiyohi.mn. us, click on department, then public works and then spring load limits & map.

For questions on county road restrictions, call the public works department at 320-235-3266, ext. 4103. For information regarding state highway restrictions call 1-800-723-6543.
