Stand up, do the right thing
I picked up the Saturday, Feb. 25th edition of the West Central Tribune and I saw an editorial cartoon on the opinion page.
It was a pregnant woman and a female medical professional and she said to the expecting mother: "It's a boy. Which means he'll grow up to be a man. Who will then write the laws that attempt to deny access to reproductive health care, contraceptives, cancer screening and abortion services for all women. Congratulations."
After reading this I became compelled to write a letter to the editor to all the people out there that read this same cartoon, got upset, and went on with life, feeling that frustration carry with them.
When did abortion become just another "service"? So I am writing, no, pleading to all the Christians out there, to take some time and do the right thing. It is not easy. But it needs to be done. We need to start putting a little effort into living our Christian guidelines, and others will follow.
I talk to people all the time about how bad things are, but until we are willing to do something about it, we cannot complain. If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. I think most people don't say anything because they are afraid of the consequences and retribution.
Well, it says in the Bible that if you stand up and do the right thing, you will be attacked, to paraphrase. Well, I am willing to be attacked/criticized to do the right thing. I have too many other good things in life and eventually death to look forward to, to compromise my ethics and morals at this time.
Society will change, the way the noisy people point it. Let's stand up and do what we know is right. Cartoons like this cannot become the accepted norm. We need to be the noisy ones.
