SVEA - Stanley G. Gatewood, age 85 of Svea, died on May 22, 2013 at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar. Funeral service will be 1:00pm on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Svea Lutheran Church in Svea. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.

Stanley Gerald Gatewood was born on March 11, 1928 south of Pennock, the son of William and Henrietta (Gaasterland) Gatewood. He grew up in the Pennock area and in 1936, moved with his family to the Spicer area. Stanley was united in marriage to Vernice Allinder on October 1, 1950. The couple lived and operated a dairy farm in Fahlun Township. They raised three children and in 1987 moved into Svea. Stanley was confirmed at Sharon Lutheran Church in Spicer. He was a member of Svea Lutheran Church where he was served on council, sang in the choir and men’s chorus and was an usher. He served on the Svea and Lake Lillian Creamery Board and was active in 4-H.

Stanley was a lifelong farmer. He loved the farm and animals. He enjoyed playing horseshoe in the summer and Whist in the winter. He played Solitaire and enjoyed reading westerns. He liked to watch the Svea Softball Team. He enjoyed his morning routine of coffee and a bar at Cornerstone Café, followed by a drive to the farm to check things out.

Stanley is survived by his wife Vernice of Svea; children: Judy Wetterling of Lake Lillian, Gene (and Shelly) Gatewood of Willmar; Jill (and Rich) Gill of Alexandria; five grandchildren: Jennifer Wetterling, Jessica Gatewood, Joseph Wetterling, Julie Gatewood, Jordan Gatewood and special friend in faith Carter Christopher.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son in infancy; and sister Ramona Lind in 2009.
