PRINSBURG -- Stanley Wayne Slagter, 74, of Prinsburg, died Monday at his home following an extended illness.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Reformed Church in Prinsburg. Burial will be in Holland Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the church and for one hour prior to the service Thursday. Arrangements are by Tri-County Funeral Home in Prinsburg.

He was born Dec. 18, 1933, on the family farm northeast of Prinsburg to Trieko and Jenny (Ledeboer) Slagter. He grew up on the family farm and attended Central Minnesota Christian School in Prinsburg.

He married Joyce Anne Bonnema on Feb. 22, 1957, in Raymond. They lived on the family farm and farmed until 1989. He went to work for the Prinsburg Co-op as a turkey barn manager, retiring in 2004. They moved into Prinsburg in 1993.

He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church and had served as an elder and a deacon. He was also active in CMCS School Society and Crossroads Prison Ministries, volunteered at the thrift store in Willmar and was active in male chorus.

He is survived by his wife; four sons: Tim (and Renae) Slagter of Lake Lillian, Todd (and Sandi) Slagter of Prinsburg, Perry (and Patci) Slagter of Prinsburg and Clyde (and Tammy) Slagter of Raymond; one daughter: Jodi Slagter of Delta, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother: Forry (and Marilyn) Slagter of Prinsburg; and four sisters: Alma Stifter of Crystal, Marc Dykstra of Prinsburg, Geneva (and Gordon) Grussing of Clara City and Sylvia Slagter of New London.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
