WILLMAR — Since Sunday and into this morning, Minnesota State Patrol troopers have responded to 18 crashes, including nine rollovers and one non-serious injury, and 52 reports of vehicles off the roadway in west central Minnesota, according to information from the Patrol’s Twitter feed.
Sgt. Jesse Grabow also tweeted that roads are still closed, including Interstate 94 from Alexandria to Moorhead.
Road conditions on the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s 511 traveler information website are listed as hazardous in Stearns County and travel is not advised from northern Swift and Pope counties and northward. Conditions are listed as difficult in Kandiyohi, Meeker and Renville counties. Conditions are listed as fair to difficult in Yellow Medicine, Chippewa and Lac qui Parle counties.
Road conditions are actually better in the Willmar area than they are to the north, according to TJ Melcher, MnDOT District 8 public affairs coordinator.
The MnDOT plow drivers report some minor drifting and in areas where rain fell this morning, more problems with ice and compaction, Melcher reported.
The plow crews are trying to fight the ice before the temperatures fall to below 15 degrees and restrict the ability of the chemicals to melt the ice, he added.
