WILLMAR -- State Sen. Michelle Fischbach, R-Paynesville, chairwoman of the Minnesota Senate Higher Education Committee, toured the agriculture and veterinary technician classrooms at Ridgewater College Tuesday morning.

Fischbach was in Willmar seeking more information about the $14 million improvement project proposed for the campus there.

The project is the second phase of a plan to provide more room for the thriving agriculture and vet tech programs and to remodel some areas to improve efficiency. The first phase of the plan is already completed.

The project is third on the statewide priority list for the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities for the upcoming legislative session. It was approved two years ago but vetoed by then-Gov. Tim Pawlenty. It was not included in the bonding bill approved during the 2011 session.

Fischbach said she did not know yet if the Legislature would introduce a bonding bill in 2012. She will remember what she learned about ventilation and safety issues in some of the crowded, aging classrooms, she said.
