The sentence was handed down in Meeker County District Court by Judge Steven E. Drange. Steil was given credit for eight days already served and ordered to attend a MADD panel and get a chemical dependency evaluation and/or treatment. Two felony charges for criminal vehicular operation were dismissed.

The charges were filed after a female pedestrian was reportedly hit by a motor vehicle and thrown several feet into the air around 2 a.m. Sept. 19 in an alley between Stearns Avenue East and Cossairt Avenue East in Eden Valley. Steil was arrested at his home after witnesses identified him as the driver of the vehicle involved.

The pedestrian, a 23-year-old Eden Valley woman, was transported to the Paynesville Area Hospital.
