Steinhaus earns All-American honors
PHILADELPHIA -- Kevin Steinhaus, a two-time state wrestling champion for Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, was one of five Minnesota Gophers earning All-American honors after finishing eighth in the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships Saturday in Philadelphia.
Steinhaus, a redshirtfreshman, lost 4-2 to Travis Rutt of Wisconsin in his seventh-place match at 184 pounds.
Steinhaus finished the season with a 34-12 record after going 4-3 in the NCAA tournament.
The Gophers finished seventh as a team. Penn State won the title for the first time since 1953.
Other All-American for the Gophers were Mike Thorn, third at 141 pounds; Zach Sanders fifth at 125; Sonny Yohn seventh at 197 and Tony Nelson seventh at 285.
