Steven A. Walter Jan. 3, 1945 - Oct. 28, 2008
WILLMAR -- Steven Arthur Walter, 63, of Willmar, died Tuesday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar after an eight-month battle with malignant mesothelioma.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.
He was born Jan. 3, 1945, in Clarkfield to Arnold and Evelyn (Johnson) Walter. He was a 1963 graduate of Clarkfield High School and he joined the National Guard in 1963. He moved to Willmar and trimmed trees until he started working at Central Sheet Metal in 1965. He worked for Central Sheet Metal for 22 years before joining Affiliated Community Medical Centers. He worked at the center as the maintenance supervisor for 20 years. He retired in May 2007.
On June 30, 1994, he married Marlys (Breems) Van Buren in Willmar. They lived on a farm site in St. John's Township until moving into Willmar this year.
He is survived by his wife; children: Patrick Walter of Willmar, Wendy (and Brian) Hoeschen of St. Joseph; his mother of Montevideo; three grandchildren; siblings: Susan (and Robert) Grigg of Miami, Stanford Walter of St. Cloud; Bruce (and Cathy) Walter of Eagan and Alan (and Lori) Walter of Monticello; stepchildren: Amy (and Joe) McDonnell of Moorhead and Suzette (and Dan) Krueger of Prior Lake; and four stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father in 2000.
