The Stingers (13-10), who fall out of a first-place tie with the River Bats, dropped into a 7-0 hole after the first inning. Starting pitcher Cedric Pomerlee gave up five runs and got only one out, followed by Logan Birr, who allowed two runs in the first and two more in the second.

It made the job easy for Rochester's Aaron Siefken. The left-hander from Iowa Central Community College allowed five hits over seven innings. He struck out two and walked three.

The Stingers scoring consisted of Isaac Ballou's single in the third inning, and Eduardo Gonzalez's single the fifth for the second run. Gonzalez had two of Willmar's five hits.

The Honkers (12-10) pounded out 14 hits and every batter in their lineup scored a run.

Matt Dittman went 4-for-5, including a double, and scored two runs to lead Rochester.

Josef Terry added three hits, including a double, and an RBI. Richie Jimenez and Jimmy Waters followed with two hits each.

Stingers' Matt Serna played shortstop in the ninth inning -- his ninth defensive position played this season and the first to do so in Stingers' history. He also played second base and left field. Jordan Smith played third base for the first time this season and Anthony Bemboom played left field.

Sean Dwyer played his last game for the Stingers, at least for the foreseeable future, according to the webcast on www.willmarstingers.com. The incoming freshman at Florida Gulf Coast will leave the team today for the Fort Myers, Fla., college for orientation. It is unknown whether Dwyer will return to the team. He hit .293 in 41 games with three home runs and 22 RBI. As a pitcher, Dwyer threw 6Zc innings.

Willmar and Rochester will meet tonight and Thursday at Bill Taunton Stadium.
