WILLMAR — The Willmar Stingers shored up their infield Wednesday, picking up two shortstops and a second baseman for the 2013 season.

The signings of Monmouth’s Jake Gronsky, St. Louis’ Alec Sole and California’s Max Dutto put the Stingers’ infield count at seven players, and the 2013 roster sits at 15 players in all.

They also added Monmouth sophomore catcher Kyle Perry, who will join the previously-signed Brian Olson (Seattle) behind the plate.

Gronsky has shown enough with the bat to have a shot as a starter for Willmar. The junior out of Danville Area (Pa.) HS, started all 59 games for Monmouth in 2012, hitting .313 with a .377 on-base percentage and .436 slugging percentage to earn him a Northeast Conference First Team selection.

His Hawks teammate Perry was the team’s primary catcher in 2012. He had a disappointing season at the plate, batting .203 on the season, but is batting .276 in 29 at bats so far in 2013.

Sole started 55 games at shortstop and hit .271 for St. Louis as a freshman last season and has resumed his role for the Billikens’ first 11 games in 2013.

Dutto is a freshman for the Bears and has started 10 games at third base so far this season. As a prep star at San Ramon Valley (Calif.) HS, Dutto was a member of the 18U USA National Team Trials in 2011.

Allday wins 2nd straight weekly award

2012 Stinger Forrestt Allday (Central Arkansas) won the Southland Conference’s Hitter of the Week for the second week in a row. Allday hit .580 with 8 RBIs and 8 runs scored during the week, and leads the SLC in average (.500), hits (25), runs (18), on-base percentage (567) and slugging percentage (.680) through Sunday’s games. He ranks second in all of Division I in hits behind Daniel Rockett of UT-San Antonio, who has 26, and his .500 average is fifth in the nation.

Reynolds back with Aggies

2010 Stinger Mikey Reynolds is back with Texas A&M for his senior season. Reynolds was drafted in the 20th round of the 2012 MLB draft by the New York Yankees but didn’t sign. It was the second he’s turned down the pros — he was also selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 30th round of the 2011 draft.

Hollod has undefeated start

Stingers’ manager Matt Hollod, in his first season as a Division I head coach, has led Wilkes University (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) to a 5-0 start. The Colonels swept doubleheaders against the College of Staten Island and Emerson College, and beat Penn State-Harrisburg 7-3 on Wednesday. Prior to joining Wilkes, Hollod was an assistant coach at Freedom Conference rival DeSales University for two seasons.

Steven Brault (Regis) struck out 16 in a complete-game shutout against Colorado Mines on Sunday; Brault has a 0.56 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 16 innings … Dillon Haupt (San Diego) hit two homers against Stony Brook on Sunday to help the Toreros to a 15-4 win; Haupt was 4-for-5 on the day and is batting .357 with 15 RBIs on the season … Florida Gulf Coast (Michael Suchy, Brady Anderson, Sean Dwyer, Ricky Knapp) dropped off Baseball America’s Top 25 after a week of being ranked No. 23; Kentucky (Max Kuhn) held steady at No. 11 … 2011 Stinger Thomas Taylor (Kansas) is 1-0 with a 2.21 ERA with 21 strikeouts and 4 walks in 20.1 innings for the Jayhawks
