WILLMAR — The Willmar Stingers have started to shore up their pitching staff with the addition of four pitchers to the 2013 team.

Florida Gulf Coast pitchers Michael Murray and Zach Tillery, and Baylor pitchers Joe Kirkland and Bobby McCormack, along with Florida Gulf Coast outfielder Colton Bottomley pushed the Stingers’ roster to 23 players in the signings announced Wednesday.

Murray appears to be the biggest catch, helping to anchor the Eagles’ rotation along with ex-Stinger Ricky Knapp.

The freshman righthander has a 2.92 ERA, a 4-1 record and 25 strikeouts over 52.1 innings and 8 starts.

Tillery, a sophomore out of Naples, Fla., will give the Stingers some flexibility as a two-way player. In 24 starts at third base, Tillery is hitting .284 with a .352 on-base percentage and 10 RBIs. On the mound, he’s posted a 4.10 ERA and 16 strikeouts over 6 starts for a 2-1 record.

Completing the Florida Gulf Coast trio is Bottomley, a freshman outfielder. He has not seen much playing time for the Eagles, racking up 44 at bats so far, but took home Rawlings All-American and Louisville Slugger All-American honors in 2012 as a prep player in Davie, Fla.

Baylor’s Kirkland and McCormack are relatively untested at the Division I level.

A junior lefthander, McCormack has pitched 7 innings for the Bears this season, allowing 1 run and striking out 7. He transferred to Baylor from Angelina (Lufkin, Texas) JC, where he had two straight seasons of a sub-2.00 ERA and averaging a strikeout an inning as a starting pitcher.

Kirkland, a sophomore, has 8.1 innings of work over two seasons, with just 1 inning this year. He was a Perfect Game USA Top 500 high school prospect coming out of Magnolia (Texas) HS.
