MADISON, Wis. — Matt Geislinger, Will Lydon and Tyler Cohen combined for a shutout and the Willmar Stingers took Game 2 of a doubleheader against the Madison Mallards 4-0, after losing 8-2 in Game 1 on Friday at Warner Park.

It was the second night in a row the Stingers split a doubleheader with the Mallards, and are now 11-8 in the Northwoods League North Division second half.

They play two more doubleheaders this weekend, both against Eau Claire — starting 4:05 p.m. Saturday and 3:05 p.m. Sunday.

The Mallards touched up Stingers’ starter T.J. Whidby for eight hits and seven runs in Game 1.

Madison’s Pete Alonso hit his third homer in two days, and Trace Tam Sing drove in three runs.

Willmar’s Nick Rivera and Sean Beesley both made their mound debuts in relief of Whidby in the seventh inning.

Casey Hughston drove in both Stingers’ runs with a bases-loaded single in the fourth.

In Game 2, Geislinger started and scattered five hits in 3.1 innings of work, while winning pitcher Lydon tossed 2.2 scoreless in relief.

The Stingers scored single runs in the first, third, fifth and sixth innings.

Reagan Fowler drove in two of them, with a single and a sacrifice fly, and Cohen plated one with a sac fly.

Willmar’s fifth-inning run came when Hutton Moyer scored from second on an error to Madison shortstop Adam Walton.
