WATERLOO, Iowa — Brothers Brady and Garrett Anderson earned a win and save Tuesday for the Stingers as Willmar won its fourth straight game by blanking Waterloo 3-0 at Riverfront Stadium.
The win also moved the Stingers (11-4) into a first-place tie in the North Division of the Northwoods League as the St. Cloud Rox fell 8-5 last night on the road to the Mankato MoonDogs.
Waterloo outhit the Stingers 7-5, but timely hitting allowed Willmar to post its fourth shutout of the season. Brady Anderson was on the winning end of the first shutout, a 7-0 victory over the Duluth Huskies six days earlier.
Last night Anderson worked the first seven innings, scattering six hits, three strikeouts and two walks to improve to 2-0 and lower his ERA to an impressive 0.90.
Brantley Claunch hurled the eighth and Garrett Anderson pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his second save of the season.
The Bucks’ two errors led to Willmar’s first two runs as Dan Motl scored in the fourth and Alex Borglin in the fifth. Max Dutto capped the scoring in the seventh by coming home on Frankie Rios’ single.
David Parrett added a double and single for Willmar, which plays Waterloo today at 6:35 p.m. before traveling east to play Eau Claire, Wis., Thursday and Friday.
