Storm warning issued for Kandiyohi, Meeker and Stearns counties
The National Weather Service in the Twin Cities has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for south central Stearns County, northeastern Kandiyohi County and northwestern Meeker County until 5:15 p.m.
At 434 p.m., radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter-size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. The storm was located near Hawick, about 17 miles north-east of Willmar and moving northeast at 35 mph.
Locations in the warning area include Paynesville, Manannah and Eden Valley as well as Richmond, St. Nicholas and Cold Spring.
Residents in the path of the storm are advised by the Weather Service to prepare immedi-ately for damaging winds and hail. Seek shelter now inside a sturdy structure and stay away from windows. Severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes with little or no advance warning. Prepare to move to a place of safety in a sturdy structure such as a basement or small interior room if a tornado is spotted.
A storm watch continues until 9 p.m. for southern Minnesota.
