Substation problem cuts power in south Willmar
WILLMAR -- A Willmar Municipal Utilities official says an equipment failure inside the south substation caused a half-hour power outage this morning in south Willmar.
The outage occurred at 11:09 a.m. after the equipment failed, according to Bruce Gomm, utilities general manager. Gomm said there isn't much that can be done to have any indication of when this piece of equipment might fail. He said the equipment will be replaced.
All power was restored about 35 minutes later. Affected customers included Walmart, Target and Roosevelt Elementary School as well as homes.
A 2½-minute outage that happened at the same time on the east side is being investigated, said Gomm.
