SPICER -- The 13 area artists that will be painting utility poles in Spicer received their paint and supplies this week at the Spicer Maintenance Building.
The Spicer Beautification Committee solicited artists to paint working utility poles in Spicer as part of a permanent public art project called Poles Gone Wild.
The 14 poles will be painted from two feet above the ground to a height of 10 feet and they vary in circumference from 35 to 44 inches. Only paint can be applied. They have been primed with several coats of primer and basic colors of outdoor paint will be provided as well as ladders and drop cloths.
The artists will receive a $250 honorarium on completion of their pole, which should be by the third week of June, weather permitting.
Artist Michele Steffen will be painting two poles. The other artists painting one pole each are Marianne Brenckman, Donna Jean Carver, Jason Dougherty, Jess Fockler, Carol Gustavson, Karen Kosmas, Eva Miller, Patt and Randy Nelson, Stacey Neuhaus, Art Norby, Sharon Schuetze and Kate Zare.
