The Hacker’s Guide Rating System ranks Little Crow Country Club No. 1 in a tie with Eagle’s Landing at Ft. Ripley, north of Little Falls.

Greystone at Sauk Centre is third and Eagle Creek at Willmar is No. 4. Also in the top 10 are Koronis Hills at Paynesville (No. 9) and Rich-Springs at Cold Spring (No. 10).

The Hacker’s Guide rating system evaluates 60 on- and off-course elements of a golf course from six categories and scores those elements on a scale of one to 10. Those 60 elements are then weighted in accordance with their significance. (i.e. — playing conditions outweigh variety of items in the pro shop.)

Although ratings and reviews are done with an emphasis on the perspective of the modestly skilled player, considerable emphasis is placed on the beauty, design, uniqueness and the fun factors of a course.

The reviews and ratings of each course were completed by a team of nearly 100 volunteers screened and selected from almost 3,000 applicants.

The rating system evaluates hospitality, playability, conditions, facility and value of each course with 1,000 points the maximum score.

Rated separately by region are public courses in TwinCities metro, the Northwest and Southeast.
