Suspect to be charged in 38-mile chase through Morton, into Redwood Falls, Minn.

OLIVIA — A suspect is in custody after leading law officers in Renville and Redwood counties on a 38-mile chase that went through the city of Morton, and included striking a patrol car before squad cars could force the suspect’s vehicle to stop in Redwood Falls.

Brian Noel Hester, 46, will be arraigned Wednesday in District Court in Olivia for charges to be filed following the chase around 3:25 p.m. Monday, according to the Renville County Sheriff’s Office.

The chase began when a Renville County sheriff’s deputy attempted a traffic stop of a motor vehicle on Renville County Road 5, about one mile northwest of Franklin in the county’s southeast corner.

The vehicle did not stop and led officers on the 38-mile chase, starting on gravel roads and continuing through the city of Morton.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the pursuit continued into Redwood County. Law enforcement officers deployed two separate stop sticks that deflated the tires on the suspect’s vehicle.

The vehicle continued into the city of Redwood Falls, where the vehicle was stopped by the Minnesota State Patrol using a pursuit intervention maneuver.

Hester was taken into custody. He was subsequently transported to the Redwood Area Hospital due to injuries he claimed occurred during the pursuit.

He was later transported to another facility. He has since been released from care and was to be held in the Renville County Jail.

Agencies assisting in the pursuit and at the scene were the Renville County Sheriff’s Office, Olivia Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Redwood County Sheriff’s Office, Redwood Falls Police Department and North Memorial Ambulance Service.
